Tukee' Teens Rock the House
Young talented musicians of Ahwatukee have been given the stage with the Rock Band program at Music Maker Workshops. Students ages 9-16 have been very busy this year fine-tuning their talents. The program has only been around over just over 2 years but has found its place in the community. The bands have been providing live music for the Corpus Christi Church Carnival, Festival of Lights, and the Horizon Presbyterian Church's Transporation Day. They have helped raise money for charity events to benefit the JDRF (Juvenille Diabetes Research Foundation) at Rock Taco Cantina and St. Vincent De Paul at Hard Rock Cafe. Kim Commons, the President of Club Red of Tempe booked the bands to play a holiday show at his venue in December 2011. The Club filled up quickly with friends and family and the students had the cool experience of playing on a stage with full backline equipment, quality front of house sound, professional sound technicians, and a great light show. The kids rocked the house and needless to say they have been invited back. The MMW rock band program is now scheduling auditions for the spring session. This program is designed for musicians of intermediate and advanced skill level between the ages of 9-16. Looking for musicians of guitar, bass, drums, keyboard, horns, saxophone and voice. The session is 16 weeks in length and starts January 16th until May 11th. The cost is a one time fee of $299.00, which includes the opportunity for the bands to play 3 gigs. The studio is located on the SE corner of 32nd Street and Chandler Blvd. The studio also provides weekly lessons in a variety of instruments, has kindermusik classes and provides band and orchestra rentals.
