Music Maker Workshops
Kind of business: Voice  and Instrument instruction, Plus Music & Art Workshops.

What they do: Teach voice, piano, flute, violin, viola, cello, guitar, saxophone, clarinet, accordion, drums, preschool music classes, Kindermusik & Art. Focus on music theory, ear training, sight-reading, rhythm, expression and performance.

How they do it: Three-person group classes, two-person semiprivate lessons and private lessons at basic, intermediate and advanced levels in small music rooms. Open six days a week.

Products/Services: Programs and classes such as Kindermusik and Music For Little Mozarts for ages 1 and up; two annual recitals; summer camps; weeknight and weekend workshops.

Beginnings: Bigam began giving group music lessons in 1997 to senior groups. Music Maker Workshops, a family dream, opened in Ahwatukee in 2000 with 100 students, then moved to its current location in August 2005 with 350 students.

News flash: Family members on different instruments may be scheduled at the same time.

Quote: "One-on-one lessons can be intimidating for many kids," Beverly said. "We have more success with small groups learning to play, even the piano, so that they have fun. They can take private lessons later."
